FAQs
What is Parallel Hands?
Parallel Hands is both a studio that creates one-of-a-kind ceramics, and a quiet art studio where you can create with clay independently alongside a small group of others. Book a session whenever you need a creative break.
Why is it called "Parallel"?
Parallel Hands is taking a cue from parallel play, which is when children play alongside each other without actively interacting or playing together. They do their own thing but are aware of others around them.
Come to the studio individually or with friends. Sometimes it's nice to hang out with others, but not have to expend the energy to do more than to create.
How big of a group will be working together?
Maximum is 8 people.
What ages are the sessions for?
Regular sessions are for adults only.
Is there instruction?
The sessions are primarily self-guided play, but we will start with a brief review of a few hand building techniques. An experienced guide will be present if there are questions.
Do I need to have previous experience with clay?
No, it is for all! Self-guided or gently-guided sessions for creative exploration regardless of experience or skill level.
Will it be on the pottery wheel or hand built?
It will be hand built making, which can be done by various methods. Tools specific for hand building will be available.
Do you offer wheel sessions?
If you are interested in a private one-on-one wheel session, please email parallelhands@gmail.com
If I don't see a date/time that fits my schedule, can I propose one?

Do I need to finish the project by the end of the session?
Each session is meant to work on one project. If you don't want to fire and keep your piece, that's okay. Creating for the pleasure of creating is just as rewarding!
